Terrorism

We were at Macy’s picking out a pair of shoes when I got a text from a close friend of mine who closely follows the news. “Have you seen what’s going on in Paris?” The Bataclan had been infiltrated and the innocent murdered.

I am honestly afraid for the future at this moment. Terrorism is the demon of society and it is now being bred through the internet at a compromising speed and depth. With social media and online forums, horrific guerrilla warfare can be effectively organized and executed on the innocent in their homes. Now that my home has been subject to terrorism, I understand that terrorism must be actively brought to an end. A passive approach will only encourage the proliferation of such events. Genocide, jihad, crusade, are names for terrorism that have stained the history of man. As he continues to be plagued in the present, man will forever be haunted by these atrocities. The only cure is to actively intercede for a better future. This remedy is a full-time commitment for every individual on the planet. The greatest obstacle for the West is the bystander effect, which is a weakness that we carry collectively on this side of the world.

The world is susceptible to terrorism because of the internet, but the world can also infinitely benefit from the bond that can be built on the web by those of good will. We must each play our part in securing our tomorrow. I believe in the power of software development, and I will play my part in restoring faith to those who need it in this world. Today, the means to accomplish greatly is readily available through inspirational acts of coding.
